 We moved to Ontinyent at the end of July 2005 and since then, we have never looked back. The first impressions have not changed at all. The people are so friendly and life seems much simpler.If you want something, you will find a shop that specializes in it. The shops are small so they invite you in and they want your business. Not in the pushy way though, just in the service. If you are buying an electronic toy for instance, they will normally first open it up and check the batteries and show you how it works. Then wrap it up for you so you don’t have to.
Where can you go when all generations talk to each other? In the street I mean. You hear greetings from the teenagers and younger, even if they race past you on their scooter later at a rate of knots. I especially like the older generation who continue there timeless tradition of dress and way of life. Might have a plasma television indoors but you would never know.
You might hear that life is cheap in Spain and it certainly is if you are careful but it’s not for a lot of things. Prices for most things are pretty much the same as England but replace the pound sign with the Euro. So about a third cheaper. Beer, wine and cigarettes are cheap though.
Even in the short time we have been here we have seen more and more English families moving into the area. The house prices are still reasonable and Ontinyent is only 40 minutes from the beach, an hour from Valencia and Alicante where of course you can fly into very reasonably. House prices are rising at a steady rate and last year it was recorded as a 20% increase.
